Cable Tray Fire Stopping Manchester
Loaded cable trays and baskets passing through compartment walls are one of the trickiest penetrations to fire stop — mixed cable sizes, ongoing cable pulls and tight ceiling voids all get in the way. We seal them to the tested system so the compartment line is maintained around a live, changing service route.
Why cable trays get missed
Cable trays are often installed and loaded in stages, so the penetration is left open while cabling continues. By the time everyone remembers it, the ceiling grid is in and access is awkward. The result is an open or part-filled hole on the compartmentation survey.
There is also a technical trap: a fire stopped cable tray penetration has to allow for the cables that are already there and, in some cases, spare capacity — while still closing the opening to the tested detail. Using the wrong product or simply foaming the gap does not achieve that.
What we handle
How we work
Assess the route
We look at the tray type, cable loading, the wall or floor construction and the fire rating needed before selecting a system.
Tested system install
Batt, coating and mastic are installed to the manufacturer’s tested detail for that penetration type and substrate.
Work around other trades
We coordinate with electrical contractors so sealing happens at the right point — without blocking further cable pulls where practical.
Records on completion
Photographic records are available on request for your fire safety documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Retro-fit sealing around existing loaded trays is one of the most common jobs we do — we select a system that suits the cable loading and the opening.
Where the specification calls for spare capacity, we install a system that allows further cables to be added while keeping the penetration sealed. Let us know the requirement when you enquire.
We can label completed fire stopping where your specification or fire safety file requires it. Mention it when you send the details.
Get your cable tray penetrations closed
Send us photos or drawings of the tray routes and we will price the fire stopping around them.
